A single billing driver: the Compute Unit

Licensing rests on the declared capacity of your clusters, not on traffic and not on how many people use the platform.

One CU equals 1 vCPU or 2 GB of RAM, and the larger dimension is charged, never the sum. Incremental tiers: USD 20 per CU up to 100 units, USD 18 from 101 to 250, USD 15 from 251 to 500, negotiated above 500. Includes 10 GB of storage per CU.

How a Compute Unit is calculated

Add up the declared vCPUs across your clusters and, separately, the GB of RAM divided by two. The CU count is the larger of the two numbers, not their sum: if a cluster declares 40 vCPU and 160 GB of RAM, the vCPUs give 40 and the memory gives 80, so you are billed 80 CU.

The count runs on the capacity declared in requests and limits, not on instantaneous consumption. That keeps the cost predictable: it does not move because traffic spiked on a Tuesday, and estimating it needs no measurement — your manifests already hold the numbers.

Tiers are incremental, not a price jump

Each tier applies only to the units that fall inside it, the way bracketed taxation works. A 300 CU cluster pays the first 100 at USD 20, the next 150 at USD 18 and the last 50 at USD 15: USD 5,450 per month, which is USD 18.17 per CU on average.

Crossing a boundary never triggers a jump. Growing from 100 to 101 CU adds USD 18; it does not reprice the previous 100. Above 500 CU the price is a conversation, because at that size the discussion is about architecture and retention rather than a list.

What is not charged

There is no base cost and no entry minimum: install Moonin on a 20 CU cluster and you pay 20 CU. There is no per-seat charge, so adding the whole on-call rotation does not change the invoice, and there is no charge per GB ingested or per host — the two dimensions where an observability bill becomes unpredictable.

Storage is included: 10 GB per CU. A 300 CU cluster comes with 3 TB, and that capacity is not billed separately nor charged per query against the history.

Prepaid annual packages

If you would rather fix capacity and term up front, there are eight packages from 20 to 500 CU, and each can be paid two ways: month to month at these tier rates, or twelve months up front with 10% off.

A 20 CU package is USD 400 per month, or USD 4,320 net per year prepaid instead of 4,800. A 300 CU one, USD 5,450 monthly or USD 58,860 annually. Each has its own page with the arithmetic broken down and its renewal terms.
